Songfacts®:

  • First recorded in April 2016 as "Young And In Love" this song was released and renamed as a lead single of Lana Del Rey's fifth album on February 18, 2017. It finds the singer reflecting on finding hope amidst the difficulties of being young through the adoration of being in love.

You get ready, you get all dressed up
    To go nowhere in particular
Back to work or the coffee shop
    Doesn't matter cause it's enough
To be young and in love (ah, ah)

Del Rey said that she wrote her fifth album for the fans. She added: "It really does come down to love and the intentions behind the music. That's why this is the perfect first single, because this one is for you and I luv you."
  • Lana Del Rey wrote the song with Katy Perry producer Benny Blanco, "Born To Die" collaborator Emile Haynie and Rick Nowels, who has worked frequently with the songstress on tracks like "Summertime Sadness" and "Young And Beautiful."
  • "Love" was originally leaked, forcing Del Rey to rush to push the track out before its intended release date. "I really love the message and I love the sound of the record, it has such a mix of everything I really love sonically. It came out a little bit earlier than I thought though," she said to BBC Radio 1, laughing. "It just started leaking the other day so we just got ahead of it and put it out! With social media it goes everywhere before you can even [say anything about it]."
  • The video starts with Del Rey looking Hollywood glam, singing dreamily to a captivated audience. Later we see the songstress dramatically performing from space. The clip was directed by Rich Lee.

Introducing the video on Instagram Live, Del Rey said: ""We have all our friends in the video - Hunter… Jonathan Wilson, my friend is playing drums, Jeff and Omar are in my band, Savannah is in the video - she's in the truck with Hunter. But I just love everything [director] Rich did with making the space scenes look so real but so surreal at the same time."
