• Lauren Alaina first began dating aspiring actor Alex Hopkins at the age of 17. Six years later, in July 2018, the couple announced they had become engaged and at that stage they were looking forward to spending their lives together. However, in January 2019, they announced they had split. Another breakup followed in the fall when a four-month relationship with comedian John Crist fell apart.
  
  As Alaina was on national television, on Dancing with the Stars, at the time of her split from Crist, she refused to answer questions about the breakup. "Everybody had an opinion. And I really felt like no matter what I said, I wouldn't say the right thing" she explained to ABC Audio.
  
  Alaina decided to write about it instead and let the music speak for her. Her Getting Over Him EP covers her full range of emotions as she puts all sides of the breakup into song. The record ends with this track, where she wonders what her ex is thinking when he reflects on their relationship.
• The song is a duet with Lukas Graham Forchhammer, the frontman of the Danish band Lukas Graham. Alaina told The Boot she was nervous about releasing this emotional duet as she was so vulnerable when she wrote it.
  
  "It's really kind of hard for me to listen to, like I almost didn't put it on here," Alaina admitted. "I remember just being so sad and I was on Dancing With the Stars, and was trying to pretend like I wasn't sad all the time."

  Swedish-American songwriter Johan Carlsson, who has co-penned hit songs for the likes of Ariana Grande ("Dangerous Woman"), James Arthur ("Naked"), and Katy Perry ("Small Talk").
• The visual, directed by TK McKamy, marked the largest-scale pop-up Virtual Production (VP) music video to date. The clip features Alaina traveling through the seasons of her past relationship, manifested into four different environments: her bedroom, Smoky Mountains, a red-door bar, and a backyard camp out.
  
  Logistically, McKamy was able to unite both Alaina and Graham (who filmed his part in Denmark) to perform a duet in these worlds. With the Virtual Production approach, instead of the use of green screens, McKamy and his team built a curved LED volume which fully immersed Alaina and Graham in these four surreal memories.
