Songfacts®:

  • Like many folks feeling isolated during the coronavirus pandemic, Nashville-based indie artist Leah Nobel found herself thinking about social gatherings - only she'd rather talk to the dog than converse with people. She explained in a 2021 Songfacts interview: "I enjoy being social but my battery dies quickly in social situations and shallow conversation drains me the quickest. I think the political atmosphere of 2020 combined with the drama of the pandemic made me just a little bummed out over humans. I saw so much ugly on social media and in the news. It made me think back to human interactions in my life (pre-pandemic) that made me feel lonely. Instances where I would rather talk to the dog."
  • Born in Phoenix, Arizona, Nobel relocated to Austin, Texas, after graduating from Northern Arizona University. Making her rounds in the Austin music scene with her brand of folk pop, she landed on the radar of Nashville producer Mark Prentice and began recording with him in 2009. They worked on three projects together, including her EP Ride The Butterfly, whose title track won her the 2014 Indie International Songwriting Competition in the pop category. She officially moved to Nashville in 2015.
  • This tune arrived on the heels of her popular song "Beginning Middle End," which she wrote and recorded for the 2021 Netflix romantic comedy To All The Boys: Always and Forever.
