Songfacts®:

  • Here, Lecrae is feeling trapped with the weight of all his problems. Such is his despair and heartache, the rapper has resorted to alcohol.

Down to the bottom, all these problems got me drinkin'
Might drown in this bottle, all this drama got me thinkin

Lecrae's drinking has only added to his anguish; now he's feeling ashamed as well. He turns to God, pleading for His help.

    Come save me
    Come save me
'Cause I've been in way over my head lately
    Shame got me sinkin'
    Goin' off the deep end
  • Lecrae explained the meaning of the song in a behind-the-scenes of the video clip: "The dark side of feeling like man I'm just overwhelmed, and you know whether that's a friend or God specifically who you're leaning on in that moment. Or maybe that's you know you're just recognizing that you're alone and you're like, 'Yo, I'm alone and I need help,' that consistency, this song is for you."
  • On the hook, this features John Legend, who cries to God to help him stay afloat. Lecrae explained to Apple Music that as soon as Legend heard the track, he wanted it for his own album, but the rapper responded, "Nah, John, come on, man. Be a part of this one."
  • Lecrae and Legend wrote the song with Micah Premnath, Alex Stacey and Jim Lavigne. Danny Majic, DJ Frank E and Ace Harris produced the track. "We labored on this one," said Lecrae. "Even after the initial session we jumped on FaceTime to tweak it."
  • The song's concept of turning to God in desperate times ties in with the confessional theme running throughout the Restoration album, which finds Lecrae recounting how his Lord and Savior set him free after a hellish time in his life. He explained in an interview with CBN:

"I've gone through a lot of turmoil and pain behind the scenes, and people, they know some of it, but they don't know how it truly affected me and my family, and so a lot of that will be shown. And people will be able to see that some relationships have been restored, some perspectives have been restored and my faith has definitely been restored."
