Songfacts®:

  • Lecrae is joined by California singer-songwriter Tori Kelly on this inspirational track, which was inspired by some badly sick people close to the rapper.
  • Lecrae explained the inspiration behind the song in an Instagram post.

"Life is a precious gift. A gift we often take for granted until it is threatened. Pain can be a haunting reminder to appreciate every waking moment. So we wrote a song to share our hope in the midst of that pain. At the time of this song’s composition, some of our loved ones were battling cancer. We wanted to encourage them to hold on and tell them we are here waiting, hoping, praying, and fighting with them. Some have been released from their pain forever, others are still fighting. Hold on."
  • Lecrae drew specific inspiration from the death of his longtime friend and collaborator DJ Official, who passed away due to complications from a lung transplant in 2016. It was also partially inspired by a friend of the song's producer, FRANK E. who'd once battled cancer.
  • The song's music video was filmed at the Glendale Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles and was directed by Guerrilla Hollywood's Michael MiHail, who has previously worked with artists like Kendrick Lamar ("Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe") and Bebe Rexha ("I Can't Stop Drinking About You"). It finds Lecrae and Tori Kelly teaming up with paediatric cancer patients. Lecrae said regarding the clip:

"For me, this video is my heartbeat. It's me showing my own pain, hope, and passion for others. I want people to see there's hope in the chaos."
  • This was the first #1 for both Lecrae and Kelly on Hot Christian Songs. It was the second visit to the tally for Kelly, who first charted as featured artist on the 25th anniversary re-boot of Amy Grant's "Baby Baby," which peaked at #8 in 2016.
