Songfacts®:

  • Our dictionary defines "soul" as the intangible, innermost essence of a human being. During this Motown-esque song, Lee Brice offer a near-religious appreciation of his lover's nobleness of spirit.

    I like your soul, baby
You've got that heart made of gold, baby

He also fancies her like crazy:

    Your body's got me weak
    You're Mozart in the sheets
You make a sinner out of me
    I'ma need a priest
  • The song has a playful, R&B-flavored sound, which is completely appropriate for a song titled "Soul." Tony Ferrari and Kevin Kadish penned the tune, then Brice added his old-school stamp that lent it to country radio.

"Soul' was like one that was this different kind of thing I heard," he remembered to Audacy. "You should have heard the demo. I mean, it was way, way weird and out of the box. But I was like, 'There's something to that, that I guarantee you we can make into something really cool.'"
  • Brice recorded "Soul" for Hey World, releasing it as the album's third single. He was apprehensive about dropping the song, fearing it might have too much of a funky feel for fans of his more traditional country music. However, Brice was reassured when he started playing it live. "I started getting calls from my countriest of countriest of kin and friends, going, 'Man, this thing, 'Soul,' is gonna be the best thing you ever had, dude,'" he told Taste Of Country. "And playing it live - when nobody had even heard it before, people loved it, and that's just always a really good sign."
  • Lee Brice released the R3HAB Remix of "Soul" on June 24, 2022. The uplifting and danceable version pairs Brice with country-rap artist Blanco Brown.
