  • Unlike many songwriters who can write songs in minutes when the inspiration strikes, Cohen would sometimes take years to write his best songs, taking care to get every word just right. Talking about "I'm Your Man," he explained to Song Talk: "I sweated over that one. I really sweated over it. I can show you the notebook for that. It started off as a song called 'I Cried Enough For You.' It was related to a version of 'Waiting For The Miracle' that I recorded. The rhyme scheme was developed by toeing the line with that musical version that I put down. But it didn't work."
  • Leonard Cohen wrote "I'm Your Man" for Dominique Issermann, his French photographer girlfriend. Backing vocalist Julie Christensen recalled to Uncut magazine: "It temporary worked to get her back in his life. She was around some of the time."
