Songfacts®:

  • This is a rather giddy love song about being so thoroughly smitten with a girl that time and space seem irrelevant. Lifehouse lead singer Jason Wade wrote it for his girlfriend, Braeden, whom he married in 2001. He proposed to her using an early version of the song he had on cassette; after the song was finally released in 2005, it became a very popular wedding song. "It was this special song to me that was laying around," Wade told Billboard. "Literally, the first version was on a cassette tape - so '80s. It was kind of my wedding song. It was so personal, so it was very interesting to me that it became this wedding anthem."
  • Originally titled "You And Me And All Of The People," this song was revived and renamed to the shorter "You and Me." It was left off the band's second album, but was released as the first single from Lifehouse's third album. >>

  • The song spent 62 weeks on the Hot 100, breaking the record for the longest stay for a track by a rock band. The record was later equaled by The Lumineers "Ho Hey."
  • Jason Wade doesn't mind playing this song at every concert, as it's one of his favorites and brings back special memories. "Every time I play that I try to really focus on the lyrics and it kind of brings me back to that place when I was 19 years old proposing to her," he said in 2017.
  • This is an important song for Bryce Soderberg, who took over on bass for Lifehouse in 2004. "With 'You and Me,' it basically served as a resurrection of the band," he told Jeff Gorra. "I had recently joined and we started touring. I got to experience the band breaking again. We put the song out, and it was the only ballad of its kind on that record. We didn't have high expectations. We had just switched labels. I remember it stayed on the charts for a long period of time and reached a lot of people. It was overwhelming to see. It was the second chapter of Lifehouse and relaunched our career."

This song reminds me of Ennis Del Mar and Jack Twist, and Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal. It makes me think how the characters and actors, respectiviely, have such a close connection. Even though it's different from eachother's. Ever since Heath passed away, I've been under the dumps all I could think about was him and Jake because they're best friends. This song soothes and let's me know that everything will be all right and that they'll be together very soon. I even heard it on one of the Smallville Clois videos. Lois and Clark are FOREVER. Those two have been together since 1938The Man of Steel and world famous reporter are eternal soul mates. *signs* If only I could find that special someone someday. One of the best songs ever.
