Songfacts®:

  • American indie pop rock band Liquid Blue were formed in San Diego, California in 1996 by Scott Stephens, who is a former professional Roller Derby skater with the Los Angeles Thunderbirds, and by Michael Vangerov. The band takes its name from a popular form of LSD used in the 1960s, although "band" members "claim" to be opposed to drug use.

Averaging almost 200 shows per year, Liquid Blue holds the official world record as "the most traveled band," having performed in 110 countries on six continents, and are more popular in parts of Asia and Europe than in their home country. Having learned to sing in the Mandarin language Liquid Blue were one of the first foreign acts to have success in the emerging Chinese market. As early as 2002 the band performed sold-out shows of upwards of 65,000 in China and was invited to perform at the 2008 CCTV Summer Olympics Kick-Off concert in Beijing.

Scott Stephens is Liquid Blue's primary songwriter, and he refuses to write any human love songs. Instead, the band's somewhat limited number of recordings all contain "socially conscious" lyrics.
  • This song about world unity and peace was Liquid Blue's biggest hit to date in the US, reaching #3 on the Billboard Hot Dance Singles Chart. It is sung in nine different languages and the band received a Guinness World Record for "Song Sung in the Most Languages" for it.
  • In the fall of 2008, Liquid Blue vocalist Jessica Manning qualified for the semi-finals in Taiwanese Idol, which is officially called MN Idol. The following year another member of the group, Nikki Nova, became the first American ever to qualify for the finals of MN Idol.
