Songfacts®:

  • Little Mix were first thrown together in 2011 during the UK version of The X Factor. They ended up winning the competition, and following their victory, they signed with Simon Cowell's record label Syco Music. The first songs they recorded were bubblegum pop songs but they resented the material the label presented them with, preferring a more mature R&B sound. When Little Mix' record boss forced them to continue with teen-friendly music and maintain their goody-two-shoes image, they left Syco. This song finds them throwing shade on Cowell and the pop music treadmill.

I don't do what Simon says
Get the message 'cause it's read
That's just life it never plays fair
    Said to follow any dream
Be a puppet on a string
Works for you but that isn't me
  • Little Mix seems to have fallen out with Syco big time. They also criticized their old label on another Confetti track, "Break Up Song," where they accuse Syco of screwing them over.
  • Little Mix' Jade Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock wrote the song with:

Frequent Ariana Grande collaborator Tayla Parx ("Thank U, Next" and "7 Rings").

Two of Parx's songwriting partners, Robin Oliver Frida and Lara Maria Andersson, both of whom contributed towards Parx's debut album, We Need To Talk.
  • Park and Frid also produced the song along with MNEK. The London-born singer-songwriter has writing credits on previous Little Mix songs including their 2016 hit "Touch."
