Songfacts®:

  • This was not a hit when it was first released, but became very popular 30 years later when it was used in a UK ad campaign for Guinness beer.
  • This was the theme song to the 1969 Bond film Her Majesty's Secret Service. George Lazenby played Bond in that one, with Diana Rigg as the Bond girl. >>>

  • The recording session for this turned out to be Armstrong's last.

  • Joshua from Minneapolis-st. Paul, MnIn 2021 this song appeared in a second James Bond movie, as the end-credits music for No Time To Die, Daniel Craig's final film in the series. That movie continued a romantic storyline from the previous film (2015's Spectre) which closely resembled - and in one crucial respect, mirrored - that of On Her Majesty's Secret Service. At one point Bond even tells his lover "You have all the time in the world."
  • Bill from Tupelo, MsArmstrong was too frail and ill to play the trumpet in this song. I believe the trumpet was actually played by Herb Alpert. The Alpert sound is quite distinctive, and he had played for other Bond soundtracks, notably Casino Royale.
  • Luke from DewsburyLouis Armstrong reportedly arrived at the recording session looking quite frail, and there were concerns if he'd actually be able to give a useful performance. He was spot on throughout.
  • Michael Scott from Punta Gorda, FlIn the movie Lazenby had his first acting role after being the UK top paid male model, many think the best James Bond movie, he later married a model/tennis player and was seen in shows like The Pretender as Michael T. Weis' father.
  • Ronnie from Jersey City, NjThis love ballad was heard in the James Bond film "On Her Majesty's Secret Service," from 1969. It served as the theme for the love scenes between James Bond (George Lazenby) and Teresa, also known as Tracy (Diana Rigg). James Bond finally fell in love and marries, however, Tracy is killed by Bond's nemesis, Blofeld.
In the opening scene of "For Your Eye's Only," the audience is reminded of Bond's love, Tracy, as James (Roger Moore) is seen placing roses on the grave of his slain wife. The headstone reads "Teresa Bond, Wife of James Bond. We Have All the Time in the World." This seen draws parallels to the 1969 film, which was a very warm and memorable film.
  • Paul from Redditch, EnglandArmstrong is "iconised" for 'wonderful world', yet this is definately his best.
  • Mike from Berkeley, CaMany people consider Louis Armstrong to have been the greatest influence in music during the twentieth century. He was a jazz trumpet player who played Dixieland Jazz and was one of the first and greatest improvisational players of all time. Every jazz, rock, horn or string instrument player who has come after him is standing on his shoulders.
