Songfacts®:

  • "No Big Deal" is about being betrayed. Love And Rockets frontman Daniel Ash told Songfacts it was based on a real person that ripped him off. In the song, he's saying, "Hey, no big deal. I'm just moving on."
  • "No Big Deal" appears on Love And Rockets, the band's fourth studio album. On their previous works, the three-man band wrote and credited all songs as a unit. For this one, Ash and bassist David J wrote the songs separately. "No Big Deal" is an Ash song.
  • Following the success of Love And Rockets, Ash and J embarked on solo careers. They didn't come back together for five years, at which point they made Hot Trip To Heaven. They recorded three more albums before calling it quits with Lift in 1998. In each case, they returned to their unified songwriting approach, leaving Love And Rockets as the only one where Ash and J are credited individually.
  • The band released "No Big Deal" as the fourth and final single off Love And Rockets. It climbed to #82, carried by the momentum of the smash success of "So Alive," which they'd released as the second single.

"No Big Deal" is the only other Love And Rockets song to break into the Billboard Hot 100. The two singles made Love And Rockets the band's biggest success, leading to its Gold-record certification on August 2, 1989.
  • The 2002 Love And Rockets compact disc reissue includes a "No Big Deal" remix that's more than two minutes longer than the original.
