Songfacts®:

  • United Kingdom's entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017, "Never Give Up on You" was performed by Lucie Jones. The Welsh singer was named as the UK's contestant after winning the vote on BBC Two show Eurovision: You Decide.
  • The song was co-written by Danish singer-songwriter Emmelie de Forest, who won Eurovision in 2013 with "Only Teardrops."
  • Despite Lucie Jones giving what was widely considered to be one of the outstanding performances of the night, she still only ended up in fifteenth place. Speaking to The Sun, Jones said that the UK's decision to leave the European Union had most likely ruined her chances, remarking:

"I had no idea how Brexit was going to affect the vote until I was there. I did notice lots of Brexit comments. I mean the Aussies were the only ones to give us twelve points out of everyone - now that was pretty awkward."
  • Lucie Jones was a contestant on the ITV talent show X Factor back in 2009, finishing eighth after Simon Cowell eliminated her over Jedward. Joe McElderry won the series that year.
