Songfacts®:

  • This ethereal love song is the closing track from American Alternative Country singer-songwriter Lucinda Williams' tenth studio album, Blessed. The tune may have been inspired by the singer's romantic feelings for her husband and manager Tom Overby (many people attribute the love songs on this album to her then-recent marriage, but most of the tracks were written much earlier during previous relationships).
  • The song made its recording debut back in 2010, in a version with Elvis Costello's added harmonies, in season three, episode eight of the southern gothic vampire drama True Blood. Williams explained to American Songwriter magazine, "He (The show's music supervisor) picked that one, 'Kiss Like Your Kiss,' for obvious reasons - the vampire kisses. It kind of had this moody, smoky-sounding thing. We said, 'Great.'" The same music supervisor had previously used Williams' 1998 song "Lake Charles" in an earlier season.

Costello also dueted with Williams on "Jailhouse Tears," a track from her 2008 album Little Honey.
