Songfacts®:

  • Here, Luke Bryan sings of two young people falling in love with each other at the beach.

It's like the ocean knows we're laying
    On this beach tonight
It's like the sand's been waiting
    For you to come alive

The song incorporates plentiful seaside images that paint a picture of an idealistic summer romance. The title is a play on words about how the loved-up boy's emotions "just keep coming in waves."
  • Zach Crowell, Ryan Hurd and Chase McGill wrote the summer love song. According to Bryan, he was drawn to "the relatability" of their tune and recorded it as one of the bonus tracks on the deluxe edition of his Born Here, Live Here, Die Here album. He released it as a single on April 12, 2021.
  • Bryan debuted the song on the April 9, 2021 episode of Good Morning America.
  • Zach Crowell, Ryan Hurd and Chase McGill previously teamed up to write another song Luke Bryan dropped for the summer: "Sunrise, Sunburn, Sunset," which Bryan released on May 29, 2018.
