Songfacts®:

  • "Future" carries a somber message of fleeting existence.

Not everyone is coming to the future
Not everyone is learning from the past
Not everyone can come into the future
Not everyone that's here is gonna last

Madonna contemplates what's ahead with the realization that nothing is permanent.
  • The song is a collaboration with Quavo of Migos. The Atlanta rapper is more positive in his outlook as he looks forward to what is to come.

I hope you know my life is gold
I drip that ice I see the signs
    Just free your mind
  • The song marked Madonna and Quavo's second collaboration. They previously came together for "Champagne Rose," a cut off the rapper's debut solo effort, Quavo Huncho.
  • The song, which has a dreamy vibe, was produced by Madonna with Major Lazer's Diplo. The pair previously collaborated on Madonna's Rebel Heart single "Living For Love."
  • "Future" was debuted by Madonna and Quavo at the 64th Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on May 18, 2019 in Tel Aviv, Israel. The Queen of Pop broke the rules with a section of her performance in which her backing dancers displayed Israeli and Palestinian flags. The organizers said making such a political statement was not an approved part of the act.
