  • Måneskin was formed in Rome in 2016 when vocalist Damiano David, bassist Victoria De Angelis, and guitarist Thomas Raggi came together after their previous musical projects failed to work out. Soon after, they found drummer Ethan Torchio from nearby Frosinone through a "Musicians Wanted" advertisement on Facebook.
  • While brainstorming band names, De Angelis, who is of Danish descent, was asked by her bandmates to suggest some Danish words. They eventually agreed on the name Måneskin, which means "moonlight" in Danish.
  • Måneskin first garnered attention in Rome for their unique style, which often involved all four band members wearing makeup. "I remember even when we were busking or playing at school parties everyone always looked at us like freaks," De Angelis recalled to The Guardian. "This gave us even more of an attitude of wanting to tell them to shut up. Growing up and being inspired by a lot of the artists from the 70s, the glam, it showed us something we hadn't seen."
  • In 2017, Måneskin took part in the Italian talent show X Factor, finishing in second place behind Lorenzo Licitra. The original song they performed during the show, "Chosen," was released as a single, reaching #2 on the Italian FIMI Singles Chart. "When we went on The X Factor we were the first rock band to [appear], but we just played as if it was our own show," said De Angelis. "We didn't have to change."
  • More success quickly followed in Italy, where they clocked up four Top 10 singles and a chart-topping debut album, Il ballo della vita.
  • In 2021, Måneskin were chosen to represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest. They performed "Zitti E Buoni," a song they originally wrote in 2016. They won, becoming the first band and first rock act to triumph since Lordi came out on top with "Hard Rock Hallelujah" in 2006.
