Songfacts®:

  • I don't even care about the time I've got left here
The only thing I know now is that I want to spend it
    With you, with you
    Nobody else here
Tonight is gonna be the loneliest

"The Loneliest" is a brooding rock ballad set during the last night Måneskin singer Damiano David spends with his lover. The reason for his leaving is unclear - maybe he's moving somewhere far away - but David is heartbroken by their split.
  • The future is bleak without his sweetheart. Devoid of her, David thinks about his own passing.

There's a few lines that I have wrote
In case of death, that's what I want

They will always be part of each other, so David has written this song for her to play when she misses him.

I'm sorry but I gotta go
    If you'll ever miss me
    Give this song another go

Damiano David described "The Loneliest" as a personal song that he hopes the listener can "relate to it in your own way."
  • The Italian glam rockers said of this sad breakup anthem, "'The Loneliest' has a strong emotional charge, being a cross between a love letter, a farewell, and a will. That's what you would say to the people you love when something good ends. They are important lyrics for us: they express a message of universal love."
  • The four band members wrote "The Loneliest" with James Abrahart, Jason Evigan, Rami Yacoub, and Sarah Hudson. Yacoub also helped Måneskin write their "Supermodel" single.
  • Måneskin produced the slow-burning power ballad with Fabrizio Farraguzzo, the Italian outfit's regular co-producer since their 2018 Il ballo della vita album.
  • Måneskin released "The Loneliest" on October 7, 2022, after first teasing the track a couple of weeks prior. The band debuted the song at the 500-capacity The Underworld in London. "Here we wrote some of our best songs so we thought it would be a good place to present our new single," David explained to the audience of the band's decision to fly to London for the one-off show.
  • The song debuted at #1 in Italy, giving Måneskin their second chart-topper, following "Torna a casa" in 2018.
  • Director Tommaso Ottomano shot the video in the Villa Tittoni Traversi in Desio, Italy.
  • "The Loneliest" won for Best Rock at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards. Måneskin performed "Honey (Are U Coming?)" on the show.
