Songfacts®:

  • Like the other tracks on Journal For Plague Lovers, the lyrics of this song were penned by the Manics' former guitarist Richey Edwards shortly before he disappeared in early 1995. Bass player Nicky Wire explained to the NME May 16, 2009: "A few of the lyrics to this are stolen, well, borrowed from the film, Reflections In a Golden Eye. Marlon Brando does actually say in it, 'I'd like to live without chatter, live without luxureee.' The film itself is beautifully shot. Richey did have a fascination with the idea of Brando, with someone that was so beautiful."
