Songfacts®:

  • London-born musician Marlon Roudette is the son of music producer Cameron McVey (Massive Attack, All Saints, Sugababes) and the stepson of singer Neneh Cherry. He moved at a young age with his mother to the Caribbean Island of Saint Vincent where he spent much of his childhood before returning to England's capital city in his teens.

Roudette teamed up with his friend Preetesh Hirji in London to form the hip-hop duo Mattafix. The pair enjoyed success with their single "Big City Life," which was an international hit, stopping the charts in Austria, Germany, Italy, New Zealand and Switzerland.

Roudette was forced to go solo, after Mattafix lost their record deal. His 2012 single "New Age" was successful in Europe, especially in Germany where it spent eight weeks at #1.
  • The first single from Roudette's second solo album, Electric Soul, this steel drum-infused track again found favor with German audiences, topping the charts there. It also became his first Top 10 hit in the UK.
