Songfacts®:

  • When Martin Smith was just six months old he contracted a serious case of bronchial pneumonia. The condition became so life-threatening that he was placed what he describe as an "iron lung" – a piece of medical equipment which allowed him to breathe.

Smith's Christian parents prayed that for their baby son during this medical emergency. They told God if He answered their prayers they would give their little boy back to Him and dedicate him to His service.
  • During this autobiographical song Smith recalls how God answered his parents' prayers.

And I heard the sound of Your voice
I felt the breath in my lungs
I felt the joy in my bones
And I started to sing, I started to sing

As the frontman of Delirious, Martin Smith wrote and sang some of the most recognized songs in contemporary Christian worship music, including "I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever" and "History Maker."
