  • This is the title track of Marvin Sapp's Close album, which again partners the singer with longtime producer Aaron Lindsey. Said Sapp:

"I am excited to release a song I believe is perfectly suited for a time such as this. People are feeling frustrated and overwhelmed, challenged and attacked. People are feeling neglected because a lot of things seem to not be going their way. But we can confuse being neglected for being processed. We have to remember that the tougher things get, that often means we are closer to God's destiny for our lives.

Attacks against us as a people intensify when we are closer to what God said and preordained for us. Whatever you may be going through, this song is saying 'don't stress about it, you are close."
  • Marvin Sapp named his eleventh studio album after this song. The gospel star said the title reflects a new way to look at obstacles in life.

"If we are encountering attacks and trials in our lives, it is because we must be close to the destiny that God has for us," he said.

"This is my personal walk and experience over the last seven years," Sapp added. "I believe no matter how crazy my life has been, God has to be up to something! He has made me some specific promises in his Word, so I am holding fast in my encouragement as I encourage others. I want to encourage people. You're closer now than ever before. The 10 songs on Close speak to the entirety of the aspect of you being an overcomer and an encouraged one at that."
  • Marvin Sapp told ABC Radio the "major, major challenges" people face in life inspired the title for his disc. He said, "For the believer, many times we get frustrated and we wonder, 'Is God paying attention? Is God listening? Why would he allow me to experience some of the things I'm experiencing?'"

"What I've learned is that the reason why the enemy intensifies his attack against us is not because we're at a distance, but it's because we're close," Sapp continued. "So I wanted to call the album Close just to encourage people, to let them know that no matter how crazy it may seem to be right now in your life, that you're not at a distance from what God promised."
