Songfacts®:

  • Matt Cardle wrote this song with Starsailor frontman James Walsh. He told Digital Spy: "It developed from a piano riff that I put together years ago, but I could never find the right melody and lyrics to fit it. Eventually I sat down with James Walsh and we tried a Massive Attack-style melody, which seemed to work, and over six months the song just grew and grew. There's a great bit at the end where it really kicks off with a violin - I really love it."
  • The gospel choir part is actually the voices of Cardle and James Walsh, which were multi-tracked about 20 times.
