Songfacts®:

  • Meek Mill sets up his Expensive Pain album with this track, detailing his early struggles, rise from the streets, and the lavish lifestyle he now leads. "I always try to really remain, even sometimes I try to stay close to my hood - not hang in the hood, because I can't, but just to get the feeling and the understanding of never forgetting where I come from and what people go through," Meek Mill told Apple Music. "So when I deliver my music, it's still got real feel to it that people can actually feel inside instead of just dance to. You can dance to it too, but I want you to be able to feel it on the inside when you hear it."
  • The song samples Nas' "Hate Me Now," which incorporates elements of Carl Orff's "O Fortuna." Another Meek Mill intro track, "On the Regular (Intro)" from 2016's DC4, employs the same sample.
  • Popcaan concludes the track with a few lines. The Jamaican Dancehall artist is a friend of Drake and has collaborated with him on a couple of tracks: "Know Yourself" and "Controlla."
  • The producers are:

Cardo and Yung Exclusive, who frequently work together. Their other production credits include Drake's "God's Plan" and "Laugh Now Cry Later," plus Travis Scott's "Goosebumps."

Johnny Juliano, who has produced music for the likes of The Game ("100") and Nicki Minaj ("Big Daddy").
  • Meek Mill based the Expensive Pain album artwork on an original painting by the artist Nina Chanel Abney.
