Songfacts®:

  • The title track of Melissa Etheridge's 12th album is named for the main drag in her hometown of Leavenworth, Kansas. Her upbringing and start as a singer-songwriter, "when everything I owned I could put in my car," is referenced on this and several other tracks.
  • Etheridge played all the guitars herself for the first time on 4th Street Feeling. She told Atlantic City Insiders: "I have a great guitar player, Peter Thorn, who's been helping me find the right guitars and pedals and amps and all the technique that goes into it. He's been an awesome teacher out on the road. I'm ready to step out and be that guitar player that was always inside me - she's out now and she gets to play."
