Songfacts®:

  • Here, Migos' Quavo and Offset rap about smoking dope, riches and hooking up with women who are "boujee" i.e. bourgeoise, or high class. (The third Migos member, Takeoff, doesn't appear on the vocals).
  • My bitch is bad and boujee (bad)
Cookin' up dope with an Uzi (blaow)

Boujee is an abbreviation of the French masculine and feminine terms "bourgeois" and "bourgeoise," traditionally used to describe the Marie Antoinette-like materialistic and pleasure-seeking attitudes of the affluent middle to upper middle class. The ladies that Migos are rapping of here are high-class with hedonistic values.
  • Offset came up with the "raindrop... drop-top" hook when he was dealing with some drama. "I had some little situation going on with life, family stuff going down," he told Rolling Stone. "So I went down to the basement to record. Sometimes that's the best time to get music off - you might be mad, make some crazy s--t."
  • Lil Uzi Vert spits the third verse. The song is the first collaboration between Quavo and the Philadelphia rapper. Previously Uzi featured Offset on his The Perfect Luv Tape cut "Of Course We Ghetto Flowers."
  • The song was the first Hot 100 #1 single for both Migos and Lil Uzi Vert. Its popularity was enhanced by the numerous videos, photos and tweets posted on social media that play off of its lyrics.
  • Sales and streams of the song were further boosted after Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino, praised the tune at the Golden Globes. Glover said the track was "just fly" after picking up the best comedy series award for his FX show Atlanta. He also called Migos, "the Beatles of this generation."
  • Why wasn't Takeoff included on the track? "I think it was just timing," Migos explained to the music podcast Rap Radar. "We were just trying to get something out. We was actually pissed off because we had no music out."

Quavo said that even he wasn't supposed to appear on "Bad & Boujee" but he did a last-minute verse alongside Offset and Lil Uzi Vert. "I had to do my verse on some quick, fast, in-a-rush s--t," he said. "So it was just like everybody running to the song and trying to get it done."
