Songfacts®:

  • Migos' debut single finds the trio rapping about their penchant for wearing clothing and jewelry from the titular Italian fashion house.
  • The song was produced by Migos' frequent collaborator Atlanta producer Zaytoven. The Atlanta producer's beat was originally taken by Plies for "Bitch a Hoe" and then by Soulja Boy for "OMG Pt. 2," before landing on "Versace."
  • When the song first blew up it came to the attention of Drake, who rapped a verse to create a remix. The result was that it went viral, entering the Billboard Hot 100. Drake performed the tune at the 2013 iHeartRadio Music Festival.
  • Quavo was hesitant about releasing "Versace" because he worried about its simple, repetitive lyrics.

"I would think like 'Versace' would be a crazy thing to drop," he told WWE legend Rey Mysterio during an episode of GOAT Talk. "Cause we were just in the studio saying 'Versace, Versace' like anybody else would be like, 'Man, cut that s--t off. What the f–k y'all doing?'"

But it all worked out. "That was the record that changed our life, and Drake got on that song," he said. "Sometimes your worst can be your best. You just gotta shoot your shot and keep trying."
