  • Miiesha (Pronounced My-ee-sha) is an Indigenous-Australian artist whose 2020 debut album, Nyaaringu, was named Australian Album of the Year by NME. The album also earned an ARIA nomination for Best Soul/R&B Release that year.

"Damaged," released in 2021, is what she calls her "most personal song yet," and her most painful. "It is a song about the broken relationship I have with my mother," she said. "And how much I have wanted it to heal, and how much I have tried to fix it, only to find myself hurting more."

She hopes the song will bring strength to others who have gone through something similar. "Black people around the world have seen so much trauma that people need to understand that, even though we might be damaged from it, it has made us strong," she said. "Respect our stories, and try to understand."
  • The Australian producer LUCIANBLOMKAMP helmed this track, and the vocal producer was another Australian, Simon Cohen, known for his work with Justin Bieber.
  • Directed by Joey Hunter, the music video was shot in and around Sydney and features Miiesha's real family: her brothers, sister, and aunt.
