Songfacts®:

  • The word "jaded" is used to describe a feeling of being tired, bored, or lacking enthusiasm, often because of having had too much of something. This could refer to a person, activity, or situation. For example, someone who has been hurt multiple times in a romance might become jaded about love and relationships.

On this breakup song, Miley Cyrus expresses regret and apologizes to an ex who is feeling "jaded" and lonely. She acknowledges her role in not guiding her former beau towards more positive experiences and is sorry about his present emotional state.
  • In the second verse, Miley calls out her former lover for not owning up to his role in their fractured relationship. Rather than addressing these issues, the ex-partner chose to escape by drinking excessively.
  • Cyrus recorded "Jaded" for Endless Summer Vacation. It's the second track on the album and follows "Flowers," which many fans believe is about her former husband, Liam Hemsworth. While "Flowers" is about Cyrus' need for self-love after their breakup, "Jaded" places more of an emphasis on her ex's feelings. However, there's no apparent evidence that Cyrus is addressing Hemsworth on this song.
  • Miley Cyrus co-wrote "Jaded" with the song's producer Greg Kurstin and songwriter Sarah Aarons. She recorded it at Kurstin's Expectations Studios in LA.

Greg Kurstin has an impressive resumé that includes hits for Kelly Clarkson ("What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger)"), Sia ("Cheap Thrills"), and Adele ("Hello," "Easy On Me"). This is his first collaboration with Cyrus.

Sarah Aarons has previously contributed to hits for the likes of Zedd ("Stay") and Maren Morris ("Girl"). Again, this was her first time working with Miley Cyrus, though she did co-pen "Mad at You" for her sister Noah Cyrus' 2018 debut EP, Good Cry.
  • On the Jacob Bixenman-directed video, Miley Cyrus rocks it against dreamy backgrounds - white bedsheets, palm trees, blue skies, and cool pools. With surf rock vibes, she belts out the song, sun-kissed hair adding to the allure.

Jacob Bixenman, who is also a model and photographer, shot the visuals for Miley's "Flowers" and "River" as well.
  • Cyrus debuted "Jaded" in the documentary concert special Miley Cyrus - Endless Summer Vacation (Backyard Sessions), which was released on Disney+ on March 10, 2023.
