Songfacts®:

  • This rockabilly pop rocker is a contemplative ode to being proud of your younger self. Miley Cyrus explained to NPR, "I think when you are a teenager, young adult, you're trying so hard to be cool or to prove something or to be something away from who you've been as a kid. And I guess as I've gotten older - what 'Younger Now' says is, even though it's not who I am, I'm not afraid of who I used to be."
  • The song's production fuses country and electropop. The producer is Oren Yoel, who first worked with Cyrus on the Bangerz ballad "Adore You" and since then has been a frequent collaborator of the singer.
  • The music video, co-directed by Cyrus alongside Diane Martel, evokes all things 1950s. In particular it pays homage to Elvis - Cyrus has long spoke of her love and admiration for The King, whom she considers one of her biggest inspirations.
