• By the time Mitski reached the end of her Be The Cowboy tour in 2018, the exhausted singer decided she had nothing left to give and announced that the closing show in Central Park would also mark the end of her music career. She changed her mind, but the experience fueled her Laurel Hell album, including the pulsing synth track "There's Nothing Left Here For You."
  
  Mitski told Pitchfork the story behind the song: "I just used the narrative of somebody who had spent most of their life pursuing one singular goal, and I envisioned a person who could no longer pursue this one thing that they had spent their entire life pursuing - and realized they have nothing else. I wrote this song basically as I finished my last show. So that was, I guess, the end of something that I had been working towards feverishly, and I guess I was reflecting on that."
• Laurel Hell, Mitski's sixth album, reunited the singer with her longtime producer, Patrick Hyland. Speaking about the release, Hyland told Crack magazine, "I think it's fair to say that each record we make is written more and more for Mitski herself with less of an interest in trying to appeal to any type of imagined audience - it's more about making something that she enjoys."
