Songfacts®:

  • Eddie Montgomery had an ending from hell to the year 2010. In November he was diagnosed with prostate cancer and a month later his wife of 20 years, Tracy, announced she was divorcing him. Unsurprisingly, this difficult period is reflected on some of the tunes on Montgomery Gentry's seventh album, Rebels on the Run. Eddie's duo partner, Troy Gentry, said watching his close friend face so many battles influenced the songs they recorded for the album. "I don't know if we would have made the same album if we hadn't been through everything we've been through in the last year," he noted. "We've always tried to record songs about things we've lived or seen, but the depth of all of those experiences really comes out in this album."
  • This Kevin Grantt and Joel Shewmake penned song addresses the loneliness that Eddie felt as he recovered physically and emotionally. He told The Boot that it was his duo partner and producer who persuaded him to record it. "It's a killer tune," he said. "Believe it or not, I wasn't gonna cut the song, but T-Roy and Michael talked me into it. I'm very, very glad they did."
