  • "More Than My Hometown" is an introspective tune about a romantic crossroads. We learn at the beginning of the song that Morgan Wallen and his girlfriend grew up together in the same hometown.

Girl, our mamas are best friends and so are we
The whole town's rooting for us like the home team
    Most likely to settle down

However, the two have different dreams in life. While Wallen plans on staying in his hometown, his lady wants something more.

Yeah, you got a wild in your eyes that I just wasn't born with
I'm a same gas station cup of coffee in the mornin'

Their two paths are destined to split; she intends to pursue adventure in the big city and he just doesn't want to leave.

But, baby, this might be the last time I get to lay you down
'Cause I can't love you more than my hometown

So Wallen is forced to give a bittersweet send off to his longtime love.
  • Wallen wrote the song with Michael Hardy, Ernest Keith Smith and Ryan Vojtesak. The same four also co-penned his previous single, "This Bar."

"I remember being very difficult that day," Hardy recalled to Billboard with a laugh. "I had a vision for the song, and so did Morgan. I was just being very picky because I could feel that the song was going somewhere and we really dug into that lyric. We always make the joke that Ern accidentally went to Midtown and got really drunk before that song, so he wasn't really much help - but he contributed as good as he could. I just remember we really dug into the lyrics hard that day. The leadup to the hook changed so many times and we finally settled on those [lyrics]."
  • Canadian Joey Moi produced the track. He is best known for helming Florida Georgia Line's first four albums.
  • Directed by Justin Clough, the video is a heart-strung mini-movie that tells the tale of a young small-town couple. The girl severs the relationship when she goes off to the city to follow her dreams while her lover remains in his hometown. Wallen portrays the young woman's big brother.

  • Jk from Lancaster PaThese lyrics describe to a T why my daughter’s bf broke up with her. He loved her very much but she has big dreams that will take her far from home and he’s never planning on leading anything but a small rural life at home! I was shocked when I read the lyrics…it’s uncanny. So heartbreaking…
