Songfacts®:

  • This early Mötley Crüe rocker is a bitter breakup song, with lead singer Vince Neil comparing her love to a guillotine. He doesn't want to waste his youth falling in love, so he's giving her the boot.
  • This was the second single from Mötley Crüe's breakthrough album Shout At The Devil, following "Looks That Kill." Around this time, the band was building a following of young fans whose parents were horrified by the group, which proudly stood for womanizing, hedonism and mayhem. "Too Young To Fall In Love" contains one of their more offensive verses:

    Run for the hills
    We're both sinners and saints
Not a woman, but a whore
I can just taste the hate
    Well, now I'm killing you
    Watch your face turning blue

This is one of the lyrics that got the attention of Tipper Gore of the PMRC, which led a campaign to get warning labels on albums with explicit lyrics; they included Mötley Crüe on their "Filthy Fifteen" list for another song on the album, "Bastard." Crüe wore it as a badge of honor; there is no doubt the PMRC helped expose them to a much wider audience and sell a lot more albums, just with stickers on them.
  • Bass player Nikki Sixx wrote this song. He often cited it as one of his favorites, praising Mick Mars' blistering guitar solo on the track.
  • MTV was key to exposing the band to their core audience, so their record label gave them a big budget for music videos. The clip for "Too Young To Fall In Love" was directed by Martin Kahan, who also did the Kiss video for "Lick It Up." In a send-up of kung-fu movies, it finds the band in China (although it was shot in New York City), where they defeat some bad guys to liberate a young girl, only to decided she's not worth it and leave without her.

  • NessThey are not anti-female at all. They were very young guys coming up with Song lyrics
  • Los from IranTheir songs have some kind of uniqueness, but I can't get over the fact that they are anti-female
  • Rich from Las Vegas, NvOne of my favorite Crue songs!...Tommy Lee's drummimg in the Carnival Of Sins video is absolutely rockin IMHO, I'll always listen to that version...and Vince's eerie vocal during the chorus ("Too young") in the video is really cool!
  • Ciara from Ses, Beninthe front cover looks like a bunch of wild girls but still motley crue rocks
  • Shawn from Green Bay, WiGreat song. This whole album had a very unique sound to it. Garage metal. Their later bigger produced albums had a cleaner sound, but a sound that had lost its uniqueness.
  • Frankie from Richmond, InHe's beastly in the song as well. One of my fav Crue songs ever.
  • Max from Laconia, NhI'm the only one writing something. Tommy Lee is BEASTLY in the video.
