Songfacts®:

  • This song is about teenage pregnancy. It tells the story about a young girl who gets pregnant, and her boyfriend and family don't care, hence the lyrics, "If you were here I'd never have a fear. So go on live your life. But I miss you more than I did yesterday." The lines, "Well don't I look pretty walking down the street in the best damn dress I own," indicate that the girl is full of herself and thinking she's really pretty so that any guy will like her. "We are young and we don't care. Your dreams and your hopeless hair. We never wanted it to be this way for all our life" is saying that she's young and doesn't care what she does, but she didn't want to be like that all her life and now she's pregnant. >>>

  • Gerard Way, the band's vocalist, told Fuse the song starts with the same bass line as "Hypocrite" by the English alt-rock band Lush.

  • Anna from London, United KingdomI always thought it was best damn tux I own.....oops :S
  • Jess from Milton, NhI always thought it was about a prostitute, yeah. Someone who didn't feel they could do anything else...
  • Z from Somewhere Over The Rainbow, WaI have an odd take on this song. I always thought that this song was about a guy who had a girlfriend who cheats on him, and is going to have another guy's baby. He makes fun of her, and calls her a whore (Well I'm a total wreck and almost every day.
Like the firing squad or the mess you made.
Well don't I look pretty walking down the street.
In the best damn dress I own?) and the guy also gets into gang fights.
  • Bella from Fu**erton, CaI always thought this song was about a girl who's life has gone to hell. Yeah, Gee used to say "this song is about teenage pregnancy" during shows, but a lot of the time when he'd say that he was pretty loaded. "Don't I look pretty walking down the street in the best damn dress I own" could also be a reference to prostituion.
