Songfacts®:

  • Nate Ruess' debut solo single was produced by frequent fun. collaborators Jeff Bhasker and Emile Haynie. The celebratory anthem is very much in keeping with Ruess' efforts with the band, featuring his signature falsetto, emotional piano and a stomping beat.
  • Reuss had tinkered with the song for months, intending it for fun.'s third album. Inspired by his relationship with fashion designer Charlotte Ronson and his burgeoning career as a songwriter away from the grind of fronting a famous rock band, Reuss realized the lyrics were so personal it should be his first release under his own name. "It felt so believable; I was saying what I was thinking," he told Rolling Stone. "This is the first time I've been comfortable in my own skin, and it's with someone who's comfortable in their own skin. The reason I'm making a solo album is because it's the first time."
  • The song features backing vocals from Swedish singer Lykke Li and guitar from the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Josh Klinghoffer.
