Songfacts®:

  • A bucket list is a list of things to do before you kick the bucket (die). Furtado explained that on this Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins produced track, she meditates, "on personal relationships and life goals."
  • To kick the bucket is an English idiom, which many believe comes from a method of execution in the Middle Ages whereby a noose was tied around the neck of the criminal while standing on an overturned bucket. When the pail was kicked away, the victim was hanged. Another theory relates to the "bucket beam" on which pigs were hung after being slaughtered. A post mortem spasm would lead to the 'bucket' being kicked.
