Songfacts®:

  • "Super Shy" is a bubblegum Jersey club anthem about the nervousness and awkwardness when confessing feelings to a love interest for the first time. ADOR, through YG Plus, released the track as the lead single from NewJeans' second EP, Get Up, on July 7, 2023.
  • The NewJeans quintet navigate between rap breakdowns and heartfelt yearning, jointly battling their own shyness. As they stand face to face with the object of their affection, they become acutely aware of their own bashful nature. Nonetheless, they still determine to make a move and wholeheartedly pursue the boy they adore.
  • NewJeans' songs often explore the desire to confess heartfelt emotions to their beloved, even in the face of fear or uncertainty. In their track "Ditto," the girls find themselves deeply immersed in love, yet uncertain if their affections are mirrored in return. On the other hand, "OMG" captures the euphoric rush of emotions experienced when completely smitten.
  • Erika de Casier, Kristine Bogan, Kim Ximya and Gigi wrote the lyrics with NewJeans member Danielle. Casier and Bogan also composed the song with Frankie Scoca, who handled the production. Gigi also co-wrote NewJeans' previous single, "OMG."
  • Directed by Heewon Shin, the vibrant and dance-centric video immerses viewers in an effervescent world. The visual journey commences with Danielle cycling through the streets of Lisbon, Portugal, en route to meet her fellow NewJeans members at a park.

As they gather, a serendipitous moment unfolds when they catch the sound of their debut single, "Attention," resonating nearby. A delightful revelation follows as they discover an exercise group dancing along to their music. Moved by the connection, the K-Pop stars join the spirited dancers, igniting a collective explosion of excitement with the infectious beats of "Super Shy."

The fast-paced, high-energy choreography draws inspiration from waacking, infusing the performance with a distinctive flair. Notably, the routine intentionally incorporates accessible moves, inviting everyone to join in the jubilant celebration.

Heewon Shin previously directed the music videos for NewJeans' songs "Attention" and "Hurt."
  • Get Up debuted at #1 on the US albums chart on August 5, 2023, making NewJeans the second K-pop girl group to achieve this feat. The first K-pop girl group to top the tally was BlackPink with Born Pink in September 2022.
