Songfacts®:

  • With its feverish energy and unrelenting power, "Meltdown" is an anthem that encapsulates the feeling of being completely overwhelmed. But just as the chorus reaches its peak, Niall Horan's voice sweeps in to offer a moment of sweet reassurance to the millions of fans who have followed him throughout his solo career and time in One Direction.

When it all melts down, I'll be there
I'm tellin' you now, tellin' you now

"The song is basically about feeling anxious and being in that kind of freaking out moment but knowing deep down that everything will be alright," said Horan. "Whenever I'm having some kind of issue, the easiest thing is to sit at the piano and let it all out, and it's not until I listen back that I realize, 'gosh, that was honest.'"
  • Niall Horan teamed up with three of the top songwriters in the pop world for "Meltdown." Alongside Amy Allen, whose credits include Halsey's "Without Me," Harry Styles' "Adore You," and Selena Gomez's "Back to You," Horan worked with New Zealand producer Joel Little, who collaborated with Lorde on her debut album, Pure Heroine, and contributed to Taylor Swift's Lover record. Rounding out the team is American producer John Ryan, who co-wrote many of One Direction's biggest hits.
  • Little and Ryan also produced the track and played all the instruments between them: guitar, synthesizer, drums, and bass.
  • Horan released "Meltdown" as the second single from The Show on April 28, 2023. Ryan and Little produced all the tracks on the album.
