Songfacts®:

  • Niko Moon first found success as one of Zac Brown's go-to songwriting collaborators. Among the hit tunes they co-wrote for The Zac Brown Band were "Homegrown" and "Loving You Easy." Moon also co-penned the songs "Back to Life" for Rascal Flatts and "Broken Arrows" for Avicii. In 2016 Moon teamed with Zac Brown and producer Ben Simonetti for their dance pop outfit Sir Rosevelt, which released an eponymous album the following year.

Moon signed a recording contract with Sony Music Nashville/RCA Nashville in 2019. This pop-friendly country song, released on March 16, 2020, is his debut single and title track of his first solo EP.
  • Lyrically the song tells the story of a group of friends laughing and drinking and picking around a campfire. It recounts them sipping "apple pie moonshine" as they sing the Alabama classic "Dixieland Delight."
  • Moon originally co-wrote "Good Time" with Jordan Minton ("You Got 'Em All") and producer-songwriter-guitarist Mark Trussell (Blake Shelton, Lady Antebellum) in early 2018 intending to pitch it to other country artists. There was little interest, so the trio shelved the track.

Once Moon began working on his EP with co-producer Josh Murty, he dug it out again, and with the help of the singer's jazz-pop artist wife Anna Moon, they revamped it to make it compatible with the rest of his country hip-hop record.

"It's a really simple message that I want to bring to the world of country music, which is, 'Life is short, have a good time,'" Moon explained to Billboard. "I want to make people happy."
  • Niko Moon collaborated with the Jamaican artist Shaggy for a remix that gives the song a reggae, island feel. Shaggy adds a verse about enjoying every moment.
  • The song climbed to #1 on the Country chart dated March 13, 2021, after 40 weeks on the tally. It marked Niko Moon's first visit to the summit as an artist, after writing several chart-toppers for Zac Brown Band.
