If Love Were All

Album: The Songs Of Noël Coward (1929)

Songfacts®:

  • Coward wrote the downtempo "If Love Were All" for his 1929 3-act musical Bitter Sweet. It is said to be both autobiographical and self-deprecating. Whether or not that is the case, Sheridan Morley stole a phrase from the lyric, "a talent to amuse," for his biography of The Master.

Although it has been widely recorded, as songs go, "If Love Were All" is not regarded as Coward at his best. >>>
