  • This slice of progressive, ambient electronica features a spoken word guest vocal in French from Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds bandmate, Charlotte Marionneau , aka Le Volume Courbe.

    Attention, attention!
    Mesdames, messieurs
Accrochez-vous bien et faites vos adieux
L'humanité est en train de fondre aux deux pôles
    Attention, attention!
    Mesdames, messieurs
    Les frontières se referment
    Inspirez, expirez monoxyde de carbone
    Détendez-vous et reposez en paix
C'est juste la fin du monde.

If your French is a bit rusty, it translates as:

    Attention, attention!
    Ladies, gentlemen
Hold on tight and say farewell
Humanity is melting at both poles
    Attention, attention!
    Ladies, gentlemen
The frontiers find their own way
Breathe in, breath out carbon monoxide
    Relax and rest in peace
It's only the end of the world.

The London Sunday Times commented that the spoken word segment is "unusually existential for Gallagher." He responded smiling that nobody in the studio spoke French, and he didn't think to ask what had been said until the lyric sheets were printed. "But then," he added, "France is a pretty volatile place at the minute."
  • During Noel Gallagher and the High Flying Birds appearance on Jools Holland, Charlotte used a pair of scissors as a percussion instrument. Speaking to i-D, Gallagher said of his scissors-playing bandmate:

"She's French and she's eccentric to say the least. I said to her, 'can you play the tambourine?', She said, 'I cannot play the tambourine.' I said, 'Oh right. Shaker?' 'Non. I can play the scissors.' She brought them in and I was looking at my bass player going, if that's not the greatest thing you've ever seen then tell me what is. A French bird in a cape playing the scissors? It doesn't get any better than that does it?"
  • Speaking to Chris Moyles on Radio X regarding the track, Noel Gallagher said: "Beautiful World is not really a song about how beautiful the world is, it's a sarcastic song about how beautiful the world is."
  • Noel Gallagher first performed the song at his intimate gig at London's York Hall on November 1, 2017.
  • It was Noel Gallagher's producer, David Holmes, who bought Charlotte Marionneau into the studio to do the French spoken vocal. Gallagher explained to Radio X's John Kennedy:

"[David] had found this thing from a jazz gig in the 50s and it was a French woman saying, 'please stay in your seats. the act that you came to see will be on shortly.' The tone was right, but we couldn't clear the sample, so we had to get someone to do something. He knew Charlotte and she came to the studio."

  • Chris from YorkYour French may be a bit rusty. "Les Frontieres se referment" means "The borders are closing". Sorry to be a pedant.
