Songfacts®:

  • This frantic, propulsive track finds Nothing More frontman Jonny Hawkins confronting depression head-on. He was coming off of an eight-year relationship he documented in the song "Just Say When," and was "trying to get myself to wake the f--k up."

In a Songfacts interview with Hawkins, he explained: "Life is not promised, it's a gift, and a lot of people take it for granted and waste their time. So, I was feeling kind of low and in a depression. It was an attempt to slap myself in the face and remind myself that I was one of the luckiest people on Earth."
  • Hawkins sings about trying to shake his "American demons," otherwise known as first-world problems. "You see these people who have the world at their fingertips, and all the success you can imagine, but they still are depressed," he told Songfacts. "Even if you are the poorest American, you still are better off than a lot of areas in the world."
  • The video, directed by Frankie Nasso, is comprised of live footage of the band taken from two shows on their 2017 tour: The Summit in Denver, Colorado, and the House of Blues in Dallas, Texas. A typically sweaty and shirtless Hawkins gets most of the camera time.
