  • As the title suggests, fatherhood is a major theme on Offset's debut solo album and the title track sets the tone, opening the record with specific messages to each of his four children. During the chorus, Offset talks to his first-born, Jordan.

I was 17 years old when I had you
Trying find my soul when I had you
I was oh so broke when I had you
Locked up down the road when I had you
Jordan, sorry I wasn't there for all your birthdays
I tried to hit, I wasn't rich, and had no workplace

The rapper admits to not having been the best of fathers to Jordan.
  • The Father of 4 album's cover art features Offset decked out in pharaoh gear, sitting on a throne surrounded by four children, Jordan, Kody, Kalea and Kulture. All four of his offspring have different mothers, with Kulture his most recent, born to Cardi B.
  • The song opens with an introduction by the Atlanta spoken-word artist Big Rube, who has also worked with OutKast.
  • Offset told Billboard that the lyrics about his first daughter Kalea were the hardest for him to him write as he didn't really have a relationship with her or know her mom well.

"The situation was a tight situation for me but I had to step up, like I said in the song," the Migos rapper explained. "How it happened was a little rockstar-ish, but I still faced it. I wasn't there for some time, but I faced it, and I'm there now."
