Songfacts®:

  • The words of "It's a Fine Day" came to the song's writer, Edward Barton, as he looked out from his balcony in Hulme, Manchester. Originally written as a poem, Barton and his girlfriend, vocalist Jane Lancaster, later recorded it as an a cappella song, which peaked at #87 on the UK singles chart. The UK dance act Opus III covered it a decade later, taking it into the UK Top 10 and to the top of the American Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart. It is now considered a house music classic.
  • Opus III did not chart in the UK Top 40 again, but in the States they landed two more Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart toppers with "I Talk To The Wind" and "When You Made the Mountain." Edward Barton as Owain Barton later co-wrote Kylie Minogue's #2 UK hit "Confide In Me."
