Album: Pajama Game soundtrack (1954)

Songfacts®:

  • "7½ Cents" is one of the final songs from the second act of the 1954 musical comedy The Pajama Game. Like the rest of the numbers in the show (bar two) it has music by Richard Adler and lyrics by Jerry Ross, the latter of whom did not live to see the film version three years later.

The musical is actually based on the Richard Bissell novel 7½ Cents, which is the pay rise the striking workers of the pajama factory are demanding. This doesn't sound anything to sing about, even at 1954 prices, but the Ensemble gives it the grandiose treatment. >>>
