McCartney penned this song at a Scottish farmhouse after a local farmer gave Paul and his family a dying lamb to nurse.

I mean, he got inspired by the little lamb they were nursering, but it seems John used to imitate lamb's voice while recording. It was written when he and Paul were in bad terms. But he missed him very much. Pain in his heart. He also recognises both made mistakes. I can't guarantee it is true, but for sure it makes sense.
