Songfacts®:

  • This feel-good song was Peter, Bjorn and John's breakthrough single. A year after recording it, the Swedish trio earned the ultimate accolade, a track on a Kanye West mixtape! Peter (Morén: vocals, guitar and harmonica) recalled to The Guardian March 20, 2009: "I remember the first day we played it in a small disco in Stockholm. It felt like every person in the club came up to ask what it was. Two years on, I can look back and see that the song was an antidote to something in the air. It belongs to everyone now, they get their own feelings out of it - it's not ours any more."
  • The whistled hook was originally added by the trio as a marker for a future instrument before realizing that it was just what the song needed.
  • Victoria Bergsman, formerly of The Concretes, contributed the female vocals.
  • This came second in the NME's list of best tracks of 2006, behind Hot Chip's "Over and Over."
  • This was the opening song on the pilot episode of Gossip Girl.
  • The song has been used in a series of adverts for the UK DIY Retailer Homebase.
