Songfacts®:

  • Phantom Family Halo are the duo of Dominic Cipolla and Bonnie "Prince" Billy (Will Oldham). When Songfacts asked Cipolla about the song, he replied: "When all your anxieties win and all you have left is 'love'... Then letting it eat your mind."
  • Explaining how the Phantom Family Halo project came about, Cipolla told us: "Our friend Todd Bresher owns a video store in Louisville, Kentcky called Wild and Woolly. He was having his 13th anniversary party and had asked PFH to play along with Roki Erickson. While getting ready for the show, Todd and Will had asked if we would want to have them join us for 'I Wonder If I Care As Much' by the Everly Brothers. We thought it sounded like a great idea. We got together and one of the rehearsals was recorded, we thought it turned out pretty good. Over the next couple months I had talked to Will about recording a few songs I had written with his voice in mind. We did the recordings on the second floor of a funeral home that I was living in with my mortician girlfriend. The recording process was very simple and minimal. There is a very peaceful pleasant vibe in that old building and I think it comes through in these recordings."
