Songfacts®:

  • This rather creepy ballad finds PinkPantheress preoccupied with a guy. She tells him she knows the street where he lives and even followed him in her car. But the singer admits if he'd "turned around and saw me I would die."

The singer described "Just For Me" as "a song based around unhealthy obsession and is almost a part two to 'Pain.'"
  • The bittersweet song originally garnered popularity on TikTok after creators used a snippet she posted to soundtrack their videos. Following its viral success on the platform, PinkPantheress released the full song on streaming services on August 13, 2021.
  • Pinkpantheress tapped Mura Masa for the UK garage-influenced beat. Mura Masa is the stage name of Alex Crossan, a producer from the Channel island of Guernsey. His other credits include Ariana Grande's "Be Alright" and Stormzy's "First Things First."
  • Four weeks after PinkPantheress dropped "Just For Me," rapper Central Cee released "Obsessed With You," based around vocal samples of this song. Both singles ended up being simultaneously in the UK singles chart.
  • PinkPantheress originally wrote the melody of the song during a studio session with another producer. She recorded the song with Mura Masa, who had the beat, during a separate studio session. "I remember being really tired and thinking, 'I can't really be bothered to write right now, so I'm going to see if there's any other melodies that might work,'" she recalled to the BBC of her Mura Masa session. "And the one I did in that earlier session just fit too well. I was like, 'Okay, this is perfect.' And then it kind of took off."
  • Coldplay performed a delicate, stripped-back cover on BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge in October 2021. "They made it quite emotional, quite somber... quite Coldplay," commented PinkPantheress. "It was really different."
  • PinkPantheress lives 10 minutes down the road from Mura Masa. They made "Just For Me" in the little studio at the bottom of his garden.
